Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus: I can’t have a normal life

Miley Cyrus, one of the world’s most famous teenage stars, has admitted to yearning for a “normal” life.

The 15-year-old is unable to go shopping or enjoy a day out without being mobbed by fans of her Disney character, Hannah Montana .

“It’s weird because I feel like a normal teenager. But then when I go out and about I’m like, 'Ok, I’m not in a normal life. It’s not a normal world,’” she told US television show Good Morning America.

“Sometimes I’m like, 'Oh, I want to go to the mall,’ thinking I’m totally going to be able to shop around. But then I’m like, 'Ok, so I’m not a normal teenager.’”

Cyrus says she is so out of touch with with ordinary life that her friends jokingly refer to her living “on a different planet”.

And while she fantasises about how great High School must be, her friends tell her different. “They say, 'It’s not all happy and smiley. It’s probably much harder than your job, Miley.’”

The Hannah Montana franchise is worth an estimated $1 billion and has turned Cyrus, daughter of country star Billy Ray Cyrus, into one of the most famous teenagers on the planet.

Her new album, Breakout, is released this week and represents a more mature direction for the young singer.

Cyrus’s squeaky-clean image took a knock when she posed for a semi-clad photoshoot in Vanity Fair magazine earlier this year.

Photographs alleging to show her in the shower popped up on the internet last week, although they are believed to be fakes.

Cyrus’s Hannah Montana co-star, Jason Earles, has jumped to her defence.

Speaking to People magazine last week, he said Cyrus was still young and didn’t always make “the best decisions” regarding her personal life.

“If people saw the amount of positive things that she does, they would see how silly the picture 'scandals’ really are,” he said. And though he hailed her as “a great role model”, he added: “Parents still have the responsibility to tell their kids what’s right and what’s wrong. Miley is not going to raise your kids for you.”

Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus plans Sex and the City remake

Miley Cyrus wants to star in a new version of Sex And The City - but without the sex

The 15-year-old starlet is planning to take her career in a more mature direction after finding fame as Disney's Hannah Montana.

"I'd love to do a younger, cleaner version of Sex and the City," she told US magazine TV Guide.

The singer and actress wear a purity ring signifying her strong Christian faith and desire to remain a virgin until she marries.

She explained: "I like to think of myself as the girl that no-one can get, that no-one can keep in their hand. Even at my age, a lot of girls are starting to fall and I think if [staying a virgin] is a commitment girls make, that's great."

She went on to list her favourite things as her Gibson guitar, her mother, grilled cheese sandwiches and "the Bible. It's my 'how-to' guide for life".

Cyrus found herself at the centre of a scandal earlier this year when Vanity Fair published a picture of her apparently topless beneath a satin sheet. She was forced to apologise to fans.

Even racier photographs are currently doing the rounds on the internet, purporting to show the teenager showering in a wet T-shirt, but they have been dismissed as fakes.

In the interview, Cyrus said of the Vanity Fair fall-out: "I don't dwell on the negativity. I want to be a positive role model, so we just try to keep [that stuff] as much not talked about as possible."

The star, currently filming in Santa Monica, release her first solo album, Breakout, on July 22. Four days later sees the television debut of her 3-D concert film, Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds.

The Hannah Montana show debuted on Disney in 2006 and the franchise is now estimated to be worth $1 billion.

Cyrus, daughter of country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, said of her fame and the responsibility it brings: "I feel empowered when I see my face on a T-shirt. A girl wouldn't be wearing a shirt with me on it just because she liked my show. She must look up to me."
